July 4th weekend…

Last week we made what is becoming our annual 4th of July trip to Missouri, and as usual… we had a great time.  It was filled with lots of golf, shopping, good food, family, friends, fireworks, police officers and mosquito’s.

The only downsides this year.. we didn’t get to see Shawn and Erin (who stayed in Chicago for a wedding) and the mosquito’s.

I’ve never really had a problem with the mosquito’s bothering me while we’re out there.. but this trip, I was apparently the target of some kind of mosquito swarm. So next time we go out there, I’ll seriously consider wearing one of Nicole’s OFF! fans like the one in the picture…she swears they work!

offI think part of the mosquito attack happened while we were shooting off fireworks… this was the same night that we encountered one of Bernie’s finest policemen. He drove by going about 2 mph as we sat in the driveway surrounded by 1000 super snap wrappers, 1 bag full of fireworks, and one huge pile of fireworks that we had already set off. (About 5 minutes before he came by, 3 roman candles were set off at once.. so that’s like 30 different shots that might as well have been some kind of cannon. Just slightly loud. Somebody must have complained!)

So he rode by.. we sat there in the dark.. trying to look innocent.. trying not to laugh. He went down the road, turned around… 2 mph again – he started back. This time he stopped… “y’all haven’t been shooting off any fireworks have you?” hahahah. No sir. Not sure how all this stuff got in the driveway. That’s what I was thinking in my head anyway. Chad and Nicole did all the actual talking. The future detective left with a warning to save the fireworks for the 4th… we did just that :)

Other weekend highlights:

  • I lost my wedding ring while we were playing volleyball in the Campbell’s pool. (Ring has been found.)
  • Reese saw her first fireworks.

Can’t wait to go back next year…I’ll be taking a mosquito net…and my water volleyball title.

Golfing

We took Reese golfing for the first time over the 4th of July weekend. She LOVED riding on the golf cart.

So. Tired.

Tristan was just a little tired after a day at the pool. This was about 3 minutes after we had gotten in the car to drive home.

I was pretty perfect this past week…so this is going to be short.

I did NOT offer to cook breakfast for Tim on Father’s Day, and when he told me what he wanted I did NOT have to ask him how to make it! I cook all the time…trust me, I know my way around the kitchen!!

Since Em failed to get her Not Me! Monday out this week, I thought I’d give it a shot… here goes:

  1. I did not laugh, point and call Emily a klutz when I walked up on her laying at the top of the steps yelling about almost ripping her toe nail off after another one of her adventures in climbing the steps. That’s unthinkable really – I don’t enjoy seeing people fall… at all. Besides, what caring husband acts that way!
  2. While Emily and I were grocery shopping the other day I most definitely did not point out a very large woman – whose very large rump had started to eat her VERY tight spandex pants. Not only would that be gross, it’s just not very nice to talk about people.
  3. Driving to work this morning… I did not yell and blow the horn at the car in front of me for driving 10 miles below the speed limit… only to realize 10 minutes later they actually work in the same complex as me. Nope I didn’t do that.
  4. I did not post #2 against my wife’s wishes. She was completely on board.

Pretty picture.

Here’s a picture of Tristan and Karlie (not cooperating) after I straightened their hair. And Tristan has “new” bangs. She looks so grown up.tris_karlie_straighthair

steps

It’s easy to recognize the sound of someone running up or down steps… lately I’ve become pretty familiar with the sound of someone falling down steps, and up steps..

Last week I was upstairs doing something when I hear a crash… sounded like Emily tried kicking a hole in the floor or something.. that was either when her foot slipped off the edge of the step or when she hit the ground – I’m not sure which. When I made it out there to see what was going on, she was laying there… on the steps… holding her big toe and telling me that she almost broke her toe nail off.

That was at least the 3rd or 4th time she’s wiped out on the steps since we’ve lived in this townhouse.

So last night I was upstairs again doing whatever when I hear a bombombombombom… and Emily going ahhhhhh! I was immediately like.. “are you kidding me!?” I ran out there and Emily is again.. in the middle of the steps – laid out straight over about 6-7 steps with one hand still hanging on to the handrail.. apparently she did the butt slide down about half the steps.

It was funny until I hear about a guy at work falling down his steps and ending up in a body cast…..! So Em… take it easy on the steps. :)

bathtime!

Emily couldn’t help herself – had to take a picture of the little booty…

A Few Favorites

I literally have thousands of photos on my computer that are in no type of order at ALL. It drives me crazy when I try to find a specific picture, but I recently discovered how AWESOME Picasa Web Albums is, and my photos are already so much more organized. We’re looking at a couple months to get them all uploaded to the web…but for now…they are in neatly arranged folders in the Picasa software on my computer. Now that I can look at my photos on the web from any computer, I find myself browsing through them when I really should be working whenever I get the chance. Here are a few of my favorites from recent albums I’ve uploaded.

Karlie ‘graduated’…

So Karlie’s daycare class had their graduation yesterday…

Karlie didn’t actually graduate because she’s not heading to kindergarten next year – her birthday is in October so she’s not quite old enough.  Instead she’s going to Reese’s daycare.. and she’s excited about that.

About the graduation though.. the 5-6 kids that are going on to kindergarten all walked out in their cap and gowns and received certificates. One little girl immediately tried to give the certificate back to the teacher.. ‘can you hold this?’… another tripped over his gown and went down.

The class had a little song and dance routine prepared… like 8 songs actually. Karlie knew her material… and she got to hug the little boy standing next to her during one song.. his name.. Long Long. Ahem.

Karlie got a certificate for just being part of the daycare class.. I thought for certain she had been nominated class spaz.

Each kid got to tell what their favorite part of the year was… the majority of the class liked the ‘field twips’.

They finished up with cake and snacks for everyone. Karlie and Gracie sat beside one another… Karlie dipping her cheese blocks in kool-aid and letting everyone know…. ‘this is awesome!’.
